The first turn of the Scenic Highway of Legends to the south of La Veta, Colorado unveils this inspiring vista. The rolling hills of the high prairie shrouds the base of Mt. Maestes to the left and Silver Mountain to the right. The saddle in between is part of the expansive Moonshine Ranch, named for the whiskey that was illegally made there during the prohibition years. It has been said that Al Capone himself ran a distilling operation there.
